Saturday 14th April saw the 1in12 librarians baking bread, making cocktails and flipping vegi burgers for a clientele that ranged from babes-in-arms to grandparents, teenage musicians, canine squatters and a radical cyclists. There was even a vegan warrior who travel 2oo miles for the occasion.

The café/library has had a number of launches, often followed by a few weeks activity and then long years of dormancy. However, for the past couple of years the library collective have maintained a fortnightly gathering to allow access to the book collection and now, following a period of intense cataloguing, have extended the opening hours to include every Saturday (midday until 6.00). Ahead of the 1in12 AGM on 22nd April, the collective randomly plucked a date from the calendar and declared an official library re-opening.

Nit-pickers might argue that less time poring over books and more spent on publicising the evnt would have produced more bums on seats, but at least the cake and cocktails got made.

The booklist can be viewed here: booklist
it's a work in progress, as they say (and we'll struggle to actually locate any particular book without a bit of warning), and our lending policy is still in gestation. But if you fancy coming down and helping out with any aspect of our work (which starts with sweeping the Friday night fag ends of the stairs and ends with a lot of washing-up, and has a little book-related activity in the middle) show your face one of these days and we'll put you throught the secret initiation ritual. One thing that's been clear on out extended-opening relaunch day is that there's an appetite for a chilled-out book-lined space within the club for those of a sensitive disposition to find refuge in on a Saturday evening.

Can those crazy librarians keep it up? Only time will tell.
